KANSAS CITY • A Missouri prosecutor has called out members of a small community for shunning a sexual abuse victim while publicly supporting a community leader who confessed to molesting her for more than a decade.
In a scathing news release last week, Platte County prosecuting attorney Eric Zahnd listed 16 Dearborn residents who had either written letters or testified in court in support of ____ ____ after he admitted the girl’s claims were true. Full Article
“If you follow their statements logically, any person who writes a letter for any criminal defendant supports what that criminal defendant does?????”
This is not logic; it’s more of that twisted thinking that comes from a society that thinks punitive measures are the answer to just about everything, which in and of it’s self is twisted thinking. The statement also smacks of political correctness, and political correctness doesn’t allow the truth to come out. It seems someone wishes to paint this man an nonredeemable menace to society who’s life has been a total deception because he is alleged to have committed a “sex crime” before he get’s his day in court.
This “logic” is completely wrong; there is good in everyone, no matter their failings. I’ve sat through a murder trial and nothing like this was ever said of the suspects. These two murder suspects were treated with the utmost courtesy and respect, even after it was confirmed that they did indeed murder an innocent man.
Why does this society treat people who didn’t murder anyone worse than a murderer?
The prosecutor is one part of the equation and is entitled to his opinion. So is everyone else in the case, especially the accused and those who are offering community support. To be able to believe this prosecutor going forward – in light of his unfettered zeal and desire to distort the process – is the real question. He need to be removed from public office for his actions.
Prosecutors do not care about the law or the so-called JUSTICE that they are supposed to strive for.
They only care about WINS…just like a game. The score is the ONLY thing that they care about and most of them have political aspirations so it any surprise at all – NO.
I respect the law and justice BUT they do not. Just ask anyone who has been targeted by the system and ask them if they feel they received a fair trial or justice of any kind.
